NATURE SQUARES


¾ cup dates, chopped and pitted
½ cup almonds, sliced or coarsely chopped
¼ cup dried apricots, chopped
¼ cup sunflower seeds
¼ cup sesame seeds
½ cup butter or margarine
2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp. vanilla
6 cups corn flakes

1. Combine dates, almonds, apricots, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds; set aside.

2. In a large heavy saucepan over low heat, melt butter. Stir in sugar and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until dissolved and mixture comes to a full boil. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla.

3. Add cereal and fruit-nut mixture, stirring until evenly coated. Press mixture firmly into a greased 9x9 inch square pan. When partially cool, cut into squares. Cool completely. Makes 16 to 24 squares.
